Dr. Marco Tedesco is a Research Professor at the Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory at Columbia University’s Earth Institute and an Adjunct Scientist at the NASA Goddard Institute of Space Studies (GISS). His research interests concern remote sensing of the cryosphere, regional climate modeling of the Polar Regions, and high-latitude fieldwork.

After receiving his education in Italy, Marco went to NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center where he spent 5 years as a postdoc and Research Scientist. In 2009, he began working at the City College of New York (CCNY) as Assistant Professor, and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2012. He joined the faculty at Columbia University in 2016. While at CCNY, Marco served on multiple committees; as Chair of the Earth and Atmospheric Sciences Department; Deputy Executive Officer of the PhD Program in Earth and Environmental Sciences Program; Officer at the Polar Program of the National Science Foundation; and organizer of the EAS Interdisciplinary Climate Change Seminar Cycle.

Marco has over 100 peer reviewed publications, and 350 conference presentations and abstracts. He is the Associate Editor of Cryospheric Sciences for Frontiers in Earth Science and Associate Editor of Cryosphere. Marco has served on multiple panel discussions and as Chair and convenor of sessions at several international conferences, including European Geophysical General (EGU), International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS), and American Geophysical Union (AGU) general assembly.
